Find the hard drive space hoggers with WinDirStat

Ever wonder what is taking up so much space on your hard drive? Admittedly, new computers now have such big hard drives that space is not usually an issue any more. But if you have a drive that is starting to get a little full, it would be handy to know what you should get rid of to free up some needed space.


Now you can know – visually. You can do this with a free program called WinDirStat (available here).

Once it is installed, you can run it and see what programs or files are taking up big chunks of space, so that you can get rid of those things if possible. When you see something that is using a lot of space (like that big purple block in the image), you can click on it and the program takes you directly to it in Windows Explorer.
