Sometimes the best solutions are the simplest ones. Today I’m going to show you how you can de-clutter the page when you are viewing YouTube videos, or an Amazon product page. In order to take advantage of this, you need to use Firefox, Chrome, or Safari as your web browser.
What I am talking about is a free plug-in that gets rid of all the extra garbage that commonly appears on the pages of these two popular websites. The plugin is called Cleanr, and is available at www.clea.nr.
As displayed on the website, this plugin turns this:
Setting this up is extremely simple. At the site, click on Install:
You might get a warning about installing this plug-in – it’s okay to click “Allow” and let it get installed. Just follow the simple steps on the screen and within seconds you will have it installed in your web browser.
A couple of observations:
When using this for YouTube, the screen is definitely cleaned of all the extra stuff that distracts from the video itself. However, I found that I kind of missed the column of “suggested videos” that normally runs down the right side of the screen. If I am watching videos from a particular creator, it’s kind of nice seeing all of his or her other videos nearby and clickable.
I think Cleanr thought of this already – at the top of the screen you will see a quick option to turn it off or on, for either YouTube or Amazon:
Also, immediately under the video, there is a link that offers the option of turning on comments and suggested videos.
