“USB device not recognized” – easy fix

At some point in your computing activities you will run into a particular error. This will happen when you plug in a new flash drive, a new printer, a camera, or some other device that uses a USB port. Here is the error:

The old “Device Not Recognized” error. This can happen even when you are plugging in a device that you have used a hundred times previously.

This problem is easy to fix:

1. Shut down the computer the normal way, with the Windows Start button.
2. Unplug the computer from the wall or whatever outlet it uses.
3. Wait a minute.
4. Plug the computer back into its power source.
5. Power up the computer.
6. Plug in your USB device again – surprise, it works!
