The newest version of Internet Explorer, version 8, is available for download from the Microsoft website:

It will have to be pretty amazing for me to switch from Firefox.
Keep in mind, this is a beta version so it may have some bugs. Of course, the same could be said for the final release.

As far as I’m concerned, IE will always be playing catch-up to Firefox; and even then, they’ll always be far behind. I can’t think of anything they could possibly do to get me to switch. Fx is just way too customizable with so many productivity-enhancing addons.

Hi Scott
One of the reasons that I like Firefox is that I can have mostly all of my bookmarks show in the bookmark toolbar without text.
Now IE8 will allow me to do that.
I had a lot of trouble installing 8, but now it works well. It would open and close immediately. I used Google to find the answer. Open control panel /internet options/advanced and reset the settings. I than had to import everything from Firefox again.
I only keep 3 or 4 windows open so I don’t see much difference in speed.
I will still use Firefox, but IE is much better now
Thanks for your great columns
Rich
