Sign into multiple Google accounts at the same time

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

I have lots of different Google accounts.  I have created different accounts because I use them for different purposes.  There is no limit to the number of Google accounts you are allowed to have.  The most common use is to have a separate email account for online purchases, since that account will probably get a lot of spam.

Ever since Google started offering their free accounts, there has always been a limitation that you could only log into one account at a time.  I don’t know if it was a security precaution or what the reason was, but it has always been a pain having to log out and log in when you’re using multiple accounts.

Now, that has changed.  Google recently added an option in account settings to allow multiple simultaneous account logins.

Here’s how:

1. Go to your Google account (or your Gmail account, same thing) and log in

2. Look for the Settings link in the upper right corner:

Google settings3. Find the “Accounts and Import” link at the top and click it, then click on “Google Account settings”

Google account settings4. Next to “Multiple sign-in”, click the Edit link:

Google edit sign in settings

5. In the next window, check the button designated as “On”.  You will also need to check the 4 boxes below that, which explain some of the functions/caveats that go along with having the feature turned on.  Then, click Save.

In order to actually start using this new feature, you may need to log out of your Google account and log back in.

Nice feature, but when I attempt to have Firefox open with both email addresses and try to send out an email, it comes up with the following error message:

“Your connection to Gmail has expired. Please log in again.”

I’ve signed in several times, and it’s not changed. But it was a nice idea, anyways.

Ok, after messing with this for the past hour, I’ve finally got it working. I thought I’d signed out and back in to both accts, but apparently Gmail didn’t think so. I think it’s working now. I hope.
